1.2 Strategic Planning
Candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans.
Artifact: SWOT
Reflection:
The SWOT was completed to see how the school, as a whole, was implementing technology for the 2010-2011 school year.
This was an inventory based template that allowed surveying the number of computers being utilized as well as the allotted time students were spending on the computer. As a whole, teachers were still lacking the skills and confidence of using technology.
This artifact demonstrates the need of the inventory to be done to see where teachers are struggling with the technology tools that are already installed into the classroom. There needed to be more refresher courses on Interwrite boards and TurningPoint. There needed to be more technology based professional development as well as support. This lead to surveys to show how knowledgeable teachers are with technology and an input of professional development they wanted to see within the school.
I learned there is a need for technology support within the school. The media specialist should not be the only support for the entire school. The 2010-2011 SWOT that was completed was done with different administration. Another SWOT should have been done for the 2011-2012 school year to see changes in administration and the knowledge of the first year teachers as well as teachers accumulating knowledge over the summer about technology.
This artifact displays the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to my school in the area of technology integration. Based on this analysis, I developed a plan to get more teachers using technology in their teaching. The plan resulted in more teachers using PowerPoints and Interwrite boards in engaging ways. Student engagement could be measured by the LoTI levels of the lessons taught before and after the plan was implemented, by comparing teacher lesson plans.
