Artifacts: Creating a Slideshow
Reflection:
With teaching English Learners, they need visuals to comprehend concepts that are sometimes lost in translation. Slideshows are a great way to summarize a story for EL students to understand the context. The artifact is an example of how to use a slideshow as a short story.
This is a way for students to be able to understand by summarizing the important events that are occur in the story. This is also a great way for students to get ideas to create their own slideshow. This can help to write a summary for those who need assistance of remebering the story. The slideshow can be used to review a story before taking a test instead of listening to a compact disc.
I learned creating slideshows need to include pictures which can come from student's artwork or approved digital photos from a variety of sources. The slideshows can also include words, sounds or both. I would change the slideshow content to be from one of the stories in the 2nd grade textbook. That way I can utilize it with my students and possibly motivate them to create one.
If this was student created, this would impact students using technology for reading to learn how to summarize one of their stories. The teachers can save the slideshows and display it on a classroom website for parents and other students to view. This could help the students understand summaries and be measured by their ability to summarize independently.
