2.4 Higher Order Thinking Skills
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital tools and resources to support and enhance higher order thinking skills (e.g., analyze, evaluate, and create); process (e.g., problem-solving, decision making); and mental habits of mind (e.g., critical thinking, creative thinking, metacognition, self-regulation, and reflection).
Artifacts: Webquest
Reflection:
The Webquest is for 2nd grade Science on Matter. It goes through each type of Matter and the different mixtures of Matter. There are PowerPoints to describe each Matter and some of the weekly tasks have videos from Teacher Tube to assist with how Matter can be mixed. Each week the students have tasks to complete in charts. At the end of the Webquest, the students will receive a certificate that can be printed out by the teacher.
With this artifact, the students must be able to complete each weekly task individually or in small groups. Each task has a chart that goes with the task. Each task has instructions to help the students to complete each one step-by-step. There are tasks that are technology related. They must complete a Glogster after exploring the three types of Matter and a PowerPoint to present what they have learned everything about Matter.
I learned that having the end result in mind helps to direct each task. The changes that could have been made would be more interaction with the PowerPoints. Having the students take notes to help to complete the PowerPoint for their own presentation.
The principal saw the Webquest and was very impressed. The 2nd grade teachers were able to use it with their class. It helped to impact the pacing of each lesson and complete the tasks in the Science Journal. Next school year, the students may be able to complete the technology tasks during class or in the computer lab. Each task a student completes is measured by a rubric.
