3.7 Communication & Collaboration
Candidates utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community.
Artifacts: Classroom Website and Edmodo
Reflection:
The county has allowed teachers to create their websites with a few different ways to add content. The templates are set up to choose the format of each page content. There is also Edmodo which is similar to Facebook. Many of the high school teachers use it for extra assignments for students to complete. Each site allows communication to parents and students for homework assignments or school information.
These websites allow the parents to view teacher’s goals for the class and any assignments the students have completed or need to complete. It creates one communication or two-way with Edmodo. This has become a central place where parents can go to weekly or daily for school information. These sites can be viewed anywhere at any time.
I learned that maintaining the information on the sites are important to keep parents informed of important meetings and events. I would like to change the format of the teacher website to allow two-way communication with parents and students.
It is important to keep communication open to the parents when they have questions.
The principal saw my website and used it as an example for all teachers at my school to view in the hopes of every teacher having a teacher website. The impact for next school year is for all teachers to have a website that displays their introduction, goals for the class, homework assignments and online resources. This can be measured by parents completing a survey on usefulness of the websites.
