Artifacts: Professional Development Proposal and Power Up Your PowerPoint
Reflection:
The Professional Development Proposal covers the materials and technology tools that would be covered during the professional development of PowerPoints. The principal had it approved before the delivery to the teachers. Power Up Your PowerPoint is the presentation that was done on Prezi. It went over step-by-step actions for the teachers to create their own
PowerPoint by adding sound, video, graphics and graphs. A survey was attached to the end of the presentation to receive opinions about having more professional development like this.
Both the proposal and Prezi presentation aligns with the technology standard for teachers and the vision of the district.
The teachers needed to be able to add more to PowerPoints so it can become more engaging for students since it is being over used as a presentation tool instead of an engaging tool. The professional development was conducted face-to-face in a small group environment with the ability to connect the teachers with their grade level for sharing ideas or to assist each other.
I learned that small group professional development was better to help keep the teacher focused on the presentation. Usually when a meeting is conducted with all the teachers, some of the teachers are not focused. They were able to concentrate on the hands-on activities of playing with the different features of PowerPoint. The change that needed to be done was doing a presentation on the old version of PowerPoint. The teachers did not receive new computers until the Spring Semester with the new Microsoft program.
This helped the teachers to utilize the different features of PowerPoint they did not know. Teachers were able to add animation, and sound to engage students more. This impacted one of the fourth grade classes in student engagement. They asked the teacher if that was her voice on the PowerPoint which got the attention she needed for a successful lesson.
