Artifacts: Learning Engagement Proposal
Reflection:
The Learning Engagement Proposal was an idea to have the students to become book critics for the Haynie Reading Express. This was to ensure the students were reading the books instead of listing what they have read. They would write a short summary with expressing their opinion to convince more students to read the book. The summaries would be displayed on a Wiki for the students, teachers, and parents to read.
I was able to assist the students, who were interested in the project, to create their background in Publisher as well as correcting grammar to their summary in Word. I was able to teach the students how to use Publisher and show the different features for background design and a variety of fonts. There were a handful of students who wanted to critique another book.
I learned that having support from the administration team could have made this a bigger project to help younger students to be book critics. There are things that I would change to make it better. I would like to teach the students how to use a wiki so they can keep going on their own. I would also encourage more teachers to use this as an example of a good summary writing
tool.
This project did have an impact by helping the students read more books and learned more about critiquing through typed summaries, especially when they rated the books. Also, it was measured by the number of students who were reading the summaries. Overall, the impact could have been assessed by the increase in Reading scores.
