Artifacts: Creek VoiceThread
Reflection:
The Creek VoiceThread was a project for 2nd Grade Social Studies which involved a step-by-step process of writing to create the story. The students created drawings based on the sentences they wrote for the story. The story is about a Creek village and how each Creek does a task. The students read a sentence orally and it was record for the story to the VoiceThread.
Each student was on a different reading level, which allowed all levels to take part of reading one or two sentences from the story. The lesson took weeks, which allowed the students to become more involved into the Creek’s and Cherokee’s way of life. Each student came up with their name, which allowed them to become part of the story they wrote.
The students became very engaged into the project and helped one student become comfortable with reading. He practiced reading his sentence repeatedly. I would add on another slide to allow the students express their experience with this project. Also, it could have been added to the gallery board I had to build with all of the activities they completed for the lesson on the Creeks and Cherokee.
The VoiceThread impacted the students to become creative and engaged into the lesson. They were very excited when they viewed it. They understood the culture and lifestyle of the Creek and Cherokee, and became experts. They were assessed on the unit and passed the test. This measured their capabilities learning about another culture. They were able to compare their lives with the Creeks and Cherokees, and relate to the people when the settlers were taking over their land.
